PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head for an approach shot of a golf club which can produce an adequate distance when a player makes an approach shot. PSOLUTION: The head for the approach shot of the golf club has a hitting surface at its front and has a base surface heading backward from the hitting surface, in which between the bottom edge of the hitting surface and the front edge of the base surface is formed with a notched surface along the respective edges; the base surface is formed to a plane shape arriving at the rear of the head and a loft angle of 20 to 60 is formed backward from the direction of a line perpendicular to the hitting surface.
