PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding method and a device therefor which can reliably feed sheets irrespective of differences in their thickness and sort.;SOLUTION: The sheet feeding method comprises: abutting feed rollers on the uppermost sheet in a sheet storage storing the sheets and feeding the sheet by rotation of the feed rollers; bringing the leading edge of the sheet in butting against a butting part formed in the sheet storage part for butting the sheet leading edge to cause the sheet to form a loop; detecting the formation of the loop, sucking and holding the formed loop of the sheet; stopping the rotation of the feed rollers and separating them from the sheet; once reversing the sheet upstream in a direction of sheet transport, while sucking and holding the sheet, releasing the butting of the sheet leading edge; and transporting the sheet downstream in the sheet transport direction, while sucking and holding the sheet.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
