PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a person retrieval system, a person tracing system, a person retrieval method and a person tracing method, enabling efficient retrieval and tracing of a large amount of biological information at multi-spot for a person.;SOLUTION: An image input part 102 inputs a face image of a person, and the characteristic amount for discriminating the person is extracted from the input face image by a face characteristic extract part 105. Information showing the significance of retrieval is added to the face image of a person to be retrieved, and previously stored in a dictionary data storage part 125. Among the stored face images, only the face images to which the information having high significance of retrieval is given are stored in a dictionary data storage part 109. In a face recognizing part 106, the characteristic amount extracted by the face characteristic extract part 105 is compared with the face image stored in the dictionary data storage part 109 to calculate the similarity of them, and the result is output to a data display part 107.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
