PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it unnecessary to rewrite a program for changing an external device and changing the operating frequency of a processor by automatically setting an optimum number of wait cycles in an access to the external device without a data acknowledge signal. ;SOLUTION: In starting up a micro computer, a cycle number counter 105 counts the number of clock cycles for the period from the starting point of reading data from an external device to the time at which the data is fixed, the value of the count at the moment when the read data is fixed is automatically loaded to a wait cycle number setting register 106 to set the number of wait cycles to the read of data from the external device, and thereafter the external device is accessed based on the optimized number of wait cycles.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
