Utilization of achyrocline satureoides ('Marcela') extracts and liposomal preparations of natural and semi-synthetic flavonoids for the prevention and treatment of the consequences of stroke and neurodegenerative diseases

Discovery of a neuroprotective effect in vivo of Achyrocline satureoides (Marcela) extracts and of liposomal preparations of natural and semi-synthetic flavonoids structurally related to quercetin. This effect is obtained mainly through antiapoptotic mechanisms, complementary and different of the antioxidant actions of flavonoids. The compounds will be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of stroke and neurodegenerative and aging brain lesions. These benefits will be obtained by the administration of compositions comprising one or various compounds of general formula 1.
