The invention provides for the display and storage of information of a form and a note in freehand. A computer receives a signal from a receiver including a suite of gestures and information of the note in freehand. The computer determines which of a plurality of computer-level templates corresponds to the information of the form based on the suite of gestures in the signal. The selected template is used to provide a two-dimensional layout substantially similar to the ink printed on the form. Upon selecting the template, the template is used to display an image of the freehand note on a computer display. The two-dimensional image of the freehand note and the template may also be stored in a datastore.
