A method for producing marl slags and marl slag cements or mixed constituents for mixed cements made of marl with a basicity CaO/SiO2 of 2.0 is disclosed, wherein, in a first method step, the argillaceous marl or a mixture consisting of marl and clay with a basicity of 2.0 is dried, preheated and calcined, and in a second step, the resulting slag product is subsequently melted in a separate smelting furnace at temperatures higher than those used in the first method step, and the melt is then granulated.
