An absorbent article comprises an absorption body (104) having an absorption layer (124) which is shaped by a material on both sides of two cut edges (126, 127) being moved at right angles to a slit and being locked in the moved position. An absorbent article with longitudinal and transverse directions comprises an absorption body enclosed in a cover. The cover has a fluid-(im)permeable surface (102, 103). The absorption body comprises an absorption layer(s) exhibiting a penetrating slit with a first cut edge and a second cut edge. The absorption layer is shaped by a material on both sides of the two cut edges being moved at right angles to the slit and being locked in the moved position. An Independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing an absorption layer for use in an absorbent article comprising supplying the absorption layer with a penetrating slit to form first and second cut edges. The slit absorption layer is led over a concave or a convex surface, where the cut edges are made to move in a direction at right angles to the slit.
