Morphine-6-glucuronide or substituted morphine-6-glucuronide of formulae (I)is made by conjugation of a glucuronateester and/or substituted glucuronate ester with morphine or substitutedmorphine in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst and inthe absence of silver catalysts and barium hydroxide and other heavy metalderivatives.
