The motor casing (1) carries a head (2), grinding disc (3) and rod (4) holder (5) for manual grinding. The holder is advanced in the supply channel (6) for grinding, bringing the rod into the grinding plane (7) of the disc. A circular segment penetration (10) of the head, allows adjustment and setting of the grinding angle about a pivotal point (11), by changing and locking the holder angle relative to the drive shaft (8). Rods of differing thickness are accommodated. A depth adjustment gauge (12) is used in setting-up for the correct depth of grinding, and acts in conjunction with the depth stop (14) limiting entry of the tool holder. In this way the ground region on the welding rod is defined.
