A recombinant glucoamylase from Endomyces fibuliger comprising the amino acid sequence starting from one of the amino acids 1 - 50 up to amino acid 963 of SEQ ID NO:2, or functional derivatives thereof having at least 85% identity. A leader peptide of Endomyces fibuliger having the amino acid sequence starting from amino acid 1 to one of the amino acids 15 - 30 of SEQ ID NO:2. A DNA molecule which comprises a GLA2 gene encoding the enzyme according to the invention. A cell which expresses the proteins according to the invention by recombinant technology. A method for producing the enzyme according to the invention, comprising cultivating recombinant cells according of the invention in a suitable growth medium under conditions that the cells express the enzyme, and optionally isolating the enzyme in the form of a concentrate. The use of the recombinant protein or the cells of the invention to hydrolyse carbohydrate-containing materials, preferably materials containing rice carbohydrates.
