Method of avoiding BOOTP IP address overlap allocation with BOOTP relay agent

PURPOSE: A method of preventing a BOOTP(Boot Trap Protocol) IP address from being overlap-allocated by using a BOOTP transfer agent is provided to perform a ping play in the BOOTP transfer agent to confirm whether an IP is overlapped, and to confirm whether IPs of a server and a client are overlapped in different networks, thereby preventing IP collision. CONSTITUTION: A BOOTP transfer agent generates a ping packet by making an IP address included in an OFFER message a destination, and registers event information with a ping list(S201). The BOOTP transfer agent retrieves whether a response for the ping packet is generated(S202). If so, the BOOTP transfer agent retrieves whether the ping response is related to an event of the ping list(S203). If so, the BOOTP transfer agent retrieves whether the ping response is coming from a BOOTP client of the event of the ping list(S204), to confirm whether the ping response is coming from other hosts. If the ping response is not transmitted from the BOOTP client, the BOOTP transfer agent deletes the event from the ping list, and transmits an NACK message to a BOOTP server to inform the server that IP addresses are overlapped(S205). The BOOTP transfer agent receives an OFFER message relating to other IP address configurations from the BOOTP server(S206).
