Described is a noninfectious insect viral having a modified genetic element, the function of which is restored by gene replenishment to reproduce the insect infectious form of the virus.;In addition, heterologous gene insertion into the virus genome has been described, allowing insect control or fertilization materials to be produced by the virus also for improved biocidal effect and gene stability of the desired trait.
