PURPOSE: A method for reporting downlink channel quality in a wideband CDMA communication system using an HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) system is provided to determine detailed information on channel quality for a downlink channel with a measured carrier to noise ratio, and to transmit the determined information to a base station, thereby enabling a user terminal to transmit downlink channel quality information as minimizing an uplink interference. CONSTITUTION: A UE(User Element) measures a C/I(Carrier to Interference) ratio by using a CPICH(Common Pilot Channel)(602), and checks whether a current TTI(Transmission Time Interval) is a multiple of M TTI(603). If so, the UE determines a TFRC(Transport Format and Resource Combination) by using a BLER threshold value or the measured C/I ratio(605). The UE channel-codes the determined CQ refreshment information, transmits the channel-coded information to a CQI(Channel Quality Indicator) of an HS-DPCCH(High Speed-Dedicated Physical Control Channel), and returns to the step '602'. If the current TTI is not the multiple of the M TTI, the UE checks whether the current TTI is a multiple of N TTI(604). If so, the UE determines CQ refreshment information corresponding to the CQ refreshment information transmitted during M TTI period(606).
