PURPOSE: An apparatus for cleaning surface of cold rolled metal strip is provided to optimally remove coolant on the surface of the cold rolled metal strip by applying mechanical and physical force. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a crank axle(5) installed in a longitudinal direction of the strip, a brush roll(5) connected to the crank axle(5), and a cylinder connected to a central axis(5') of the crank axle(5), the rotation movement of the crank axle(5) is converted into a reciprocal movement of the brush roll. In the apparatus for cleaning surface of cold rolled metal strip, a brush roll(50) moves up and down by a cylinder(34) and a piston using a crank axle installed in an alkali tank so as to discharge the coolant out of the roll. The up and down movement of the brush roll(50) moves strip windings so as to form a narrow space at the coolant layer such that the alkali solution easily penetrates and quickly react.
