SUBSTANCE: invention relates to peptide antibiotic mersacidine and its precursors premersacidine and promersacidine, DNA encoding thereof, vectors comprising these DNAs and method of genetic engineering used for preparing mature mersacidine. Mature mersacidine is used as peptide antibiotic against infection of foodstuffs with methicilline-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or for treatment of human and animals with infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Invention can be used also for preparing modified derivatives of mersacidine with shifted antibiotic spectrum or with distinguishing effectiveness.
