FIELD: analytic chemistry; analytic check-up of natural media for content of mercury and other heavy metals. SUBSTANCE: method used for proximate check-up of soils and biological objects for content of mercury, lead, zinc, and copper involves decomposition of material under inspection mixed up with hydrochloric and nitric acids in proportion of 1:3 followed by ultrasonic treatment for 2-3 min at frequency of 18 kHz and analysis of solution obtained. The choice of optimal mineralizer and reduced ultrasonic treatment time make it possible to extend range of metals detected (lead, zinc, and copper).
