Detecting a pathogen (A) or a cellular product (B) induced by it, particularly for diagnosis of subacute spongiform encephalopathies, is new. Eukaryotic cells, preferably human or animal, taken from a living subject, are incubated with an (A)- or (B)-specific foreign substance (X), and interaction of (X) with (A) or (B) is detected by a color reaction, using the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-Spot method.
