Granular highly swellable hydrogel-forming polymer (HFP) is added to brake fluid. The polymer is held in a device, which can be a storage container or compensating container for brake fluids. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a brake fluid containing a highly swellable hydrogel-polymer in granular form; and (2) a device for holding granular highly swellable hydrogel-forming polymer in brake fluid in storage or compensating containers.
