Device for cooling metallic strips, comprises a cooling section (4a-6b), in which cooling nozzles (18a, 19a) arranged over the width of the plate to be cooled apply a cooling liquid stream (V1, V2) on the plate; and a holding stamp containing the cooling liquid. The nozzles release a cooling liquid stream which wets the surface of the plate over a determined region. An Independent claim is also included for a process for cooling metallic strips, especially high strength wear resistant heavy steel plates, using the above device. Preferred Features: The cooling liquid stream has a cone shape. Two cooling sections are formed in the longitudinal direction of the plate.
