Combusting boil-off gas on a liquid gas transport ship (94) uses a burner having a device (100) for supplying boil-off gas and a device for supplying combustion air, a combustion chamber for complete combustion of the boil-off gas with the combustion air and for producing flue gas, and a mixing device having a device for supplying mixing air for mixing the flue gas with the mixing air downstream of the combustion chamber and for producing exhaust gas. The burner and the device for supplying boil-off gas, combustion air and mixing air are operated so that downstream of the mixing device a specified maximum exhaust gas temperature is not exceeded. Preferred Features: The boil-off gas is combusted in a soot-free manner.
