The system for feeding straps to a strapping machine (21) comprises two supply reels (1, 2) which feed straps to a strapping head (20, 30). The reels are fitted with controls (7) which, in conjunction with a computer (50), calculate the residual strap length and ensure a constant minimum length of strap is supplied.
