Device for controlling a machine tool comprises: a first CPU controlled by a first operating system for use with large data processing capacity and small data processing speed, for processing monitor output, keyboard input and NC-data; and a second CPU with a second operating system that works with a low capacity data processing system at a higher operating speed for processing complex NC-data and input-output to the machine tool; and a unit for common storage of data used by the two CPUs.
