The socket comprises a first socket (S1) without a child safety feature and a second socket with a child safety feature (40). Each socket has an insulating base (10) on which are mounted contacts (11) and terminal clamps. A support frame (15) is connected to the base and has an outwardly extending flange (17). A cover (18) with a base (31) is adapted to fit into the frame. The base, frame and cover of each of the sockets is the same. The cover base has an attachment (35) extending towards the base. This abuts against a stop (26) on the base. In both sockets, the stop is the same axial distance from the frame flange (17).
