A toaster comprises sprung bread holders (14), resistance wires (16) and a bread release mechanism (18) all in a housing (12) on a base plate (10). The housing side walls are of glass or transparent mica. An Independent claim is also included for a toaster as above in which the bread holders are of a sprung wire rectangular coil.
