The automatic clamping action, when a tool is inserted into a tool holder, uses a combination of a circular and a rectangular cross section. The corners of the rectangular cross section of the holder cross section, on the opposite side to the clamping screw (12), are interrupted on both sides with flat locking surfaces, working with corresponding locking surfaces (8,8a) on both sides of the neighboring corners of a rectangular tool holder (2). The clamping screw is positioned by a release holding flange (11), with a shoulder (18) inserted into a passage (19) to the holder cross section, without play.
