A printer or copier has a transfer printing station for electrostatic transfer of toner from a photoconductor to the recording medium. A pressure contact element is provided on the recording medium guide elements to ensure contact of the recording medium with the photoconductor during transfer. Supporting rollers of a slightly greater diameter than the pressure contact element are provided at each end thereof bearing on the photoconductor as spacer elements to define a minimum spacing between the pressure contact element and the intermediate carrier.
