The external bone distractor (1) has a curved threaded rod (4) with diametrical flats (7,8). Carriages (2) mounted on the rod have fixed spindle supports (3) and have guides (10,13) cooperating with the flats to prevent rotation of the carriages around the rod. There are nut and saddle assemblies to adjust the position of each carriage along the rod.
