The procedure provides a secure means of participating in a betting game, such as a lottery, necessitating communication between a player (3) and a center (5) where the lottery is managed. Communication is established using a mobile telephone (2). The process consists of transmitting to the management center the data obtained from a prepaid information support (4), which has previously been obtained by the player. If the transmitted data is recognized by comparison with that held in the storage system of the management center, the participation of the user in the lottery game is validated. The information on the prepaid support card is secured using a quartz-type cryptographic algorithm.
