The high power ultrashort pulse amplifier chain has a stretcher (STR) stretching the impulse pulse with a grating type dispersive element (GS). An amplifier amplifies the stretched pulse. A compressor (CPR) temporarily compresses the stretched pulse. The stretcher input grating is dimensioned to operate with a pulse incidence angle so that the angle of diffraction at the central wavelength is the same sign as the incidence angle relative to the grating normal and has a higher absolute value.
