Production of make-up powders with demonstrable moisturizing power comprises incorporating a fatty material (animal, vegetable or mineral oil, wax, fatty acid ester, fatty alcohol or emulsifier) into a powder, applying the powder onto skin, affixing an adhesive to the site of application for a predetermined time, removing the adhesive, and measuring the loss of skin moisture by analyzing infrared absorption bands on the adhesive. An Independent claim is also included for free or compacted make-up powders produced as above.
