PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe compound having excellent activities for inhibiting an elastase and not affecting a hepatic metabolic enzyme.;SOLUTION: The 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivative and a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof are represented by general formula (I). The compound has an elastase-inhibiting activities, and is useful for treatment and/or prevention of a disease caused by the gastric upset of elastinolysis, decomposition of collagen fiber and/or proteoglycan decomposition, e.g. emphysema, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), myocardial infarction, ulcerative colitis and periodontium disease.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
