There are 2-mercapto-5-pyrimidyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole and 2-mercapto-5- pyrimidyl-1,3,4-thiadiazoles of the formula I in which X is oxygen or sulfur R 'is halogen, CF₃, C₁-C₃-alkyl, C₁-C₃ alkoxy, C₁-C₃-alkylthio, cyclopropyl and n is a number from 0 to 3, R₂ is hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, C₁-C₃-alkoxy or cyano, C₁-C₅-alkyl; unsubstituted or halogen-substituted C₃-C₇ alkenyl; unsubstituted or halogen-substituted C₃-C₇-alkynyl, means and methods for preparing the compounds of formula I described.; The compounds of the formula I have properties nematicidal and fungicidal own. There will be described nematicidal and fungicidal agents, containing as active ingredient at least one compound of formula I, further methods of using the agents and the agents in the control of nematodes or fungi.
