PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide multilayer endless belt that is excellent in flame retardancy, electric stability, transparency and strength and prevents ununiform image, and to provide an intermediate transfer member for an image forming apparatus comprising the belt.;SOLUTION: The polymiide multilayer endless belt that is useful as the intermediate transfer member for the image forming apparatus includes: (A) a substrate layer made from polyimide, whose surface is activated by a physical activating means; and a surface layer made of a polyimide thin film formed on the surface of the substrate layer by a vapor deposition polymerization of pyromellitic anhydride and diamine. The surface layer has a film thickness of 1 to 10 μm. The diamine is preferably 4, 4'-diaminodiphenyl ether. The physical activating means is preferably electron beam irradiation, plasma irradiation, or ultra-violet light wrapping.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
