PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loss of light quantity and to reduce background noise, in a confocal scanning fluorescence microscope.;SOLUTION: The confocal scanning type fluorescence microscope 1 is provided with a mirror cylinder unit 4 equipped with a first image forming lens 9, an object lens 6 disposed near to a sample P, a vertically illuminating tube attaching part 5 to which a vertically illuminating tube can be detachably attached and a confocal unit 3 detachably attached to the vertically illuminating tube attaching part 5. The confocal unit 3 is provided with a light source 11, an illumination optical system 12 condensing light from the light source 11, a confocal scanner 14 disposed in the vicinity of a focal point of the illumination optical system 12, a second image forming lens 15 transmitting light emitted from the confocal scanner 14 and a projection optical system 17 condensing light transmitted and returned through the second image forming lens 15 and the confocal scanner 14. The second image forming lens 15 consists of a glass material having self fluorescence generation less than that of the first image forming lens 9.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
