PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented carbide cutting tool having chipping resistance and abrasion resistance under high speed heavy duty cutting conditions.;SOLUTION: A complex carbon nitrioxide layer of Al and Ti of 2-20 μm thickness is vapor-deposited on a base surface, an Al and oxygen maximum containing point and a Ti, carbon and nitrogen maximum containing point are alternately present along the layer thickness direction and Al/oxygen and Ti/carbon/nitrogen contents are continuously changed between the both points so as to constitute a hard coated layer. The Al and oxygen maximum containing point satisfies Al/(Al+Ti), 0.80-0.98; oxygen/(oxygen + carbon + nitrogen), 0.80-0.98; carbon/(oxygen + carbon + nitrogen), 0.01-0.10; and nitrogen/(oxygen + carbon + nitrogen), 0.01-0.10 in an atom ratio. The Ti, carbon and nitrogen maximum containing point satisfies Ti/(Ti+Al), 0.80-0.98; carbon/(carbon + nitrogen + oxygen), 0.40-0.49; nitrogen/(carbon + nitrogen + oxygen), 0.40-0.49; and oxygen/(carbon + nitrogen + oxygen), 0.02-0.20.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
