PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document security system with which the access right range of secret document can be flexibly dealt with while efficiently sharing document data. SOLUTION: This system has a data server 5, full sentence retrieval service server 7 connected to a LAN 3, and fire wall 9 arranged between the full sentence retrieval service server 7 and the data server 5. In this case, when it is desired to refer to document/document image data stored in the data server 5, a client terminal 12 performs retrieval processing by designating any character string included in the desired document/document image data to be referred to. When it is desired to designate an access limited character string as a retrieval word, a password for such a character string is simultaneously designated. When there is no designation for access limited character string and its password, the document including that access limited character string is not displayed as the retrieved result and it just seems the document including that access limited character string does not exist.
