PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for generating 3D-models, which are cost-effective, practical, understandable, strong, efficiently and detailed. PSOLUTION: A method acquires the distance from a 3D point to a 3D surface using a 2D projected distance image. A projected distance and the cliff distance from a 3D point to a 3D surface are calculated using the projected distance image.
