PURPOSE: To make it possible to remove the resin of wood containing resin and at the same time, repair a part from which the resin is removed, and improve the adhesion of a coating film to the part by using an aqueous solution containing a specified ratio of the silicic acid portion of specifically modified alkali silicate. ;CONSTITUTION: A treating agent for wood containing resin is composed of an aqueous solution containing 1 to 25wt.% silicic acid portion in terms of SiO₂ of a modified alkali silicate expressed by the formula mb₂O₃.nM₂O.SiO₂ (in the formula, M is an alkali metal elements of Li, Na or K; m is 0.01 to 0.3 of the number of moles; and N is 0.2 to 1.2 of the number of moles). This modified alkali silicate obtained by modification with boric acid can react chemically with rosin obtained from resin easily so that the rosin component is eluted and at the same time, the SiO₂ portion precipitates to replace the eluted portion of the rosin component. Thus, the resin is removed and a space generated by the removal of the resin is filled with a hydrated silicate, if the wood containing the resin is soaked in the treating agent.
