PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition containing an oleophilic photochromic titanium oxide, producible in various forms such as liquid and coating film without using a baking process under severely controlled baking temperature condition, having excellent handleability and high affinity to oily material and capable of imparting high transparency. ;SOLUTION: One or more kinds of organic compounds having an atom and/or group containing lone electron pair in the molecule are added together with water and optionally a catalyst to a titanium alkoxide or its oily solution or dispersion to effect the hydrolysis of the alkoxide. One or more kinds of metals and metallic compounds acting as a photochromic assistant are added to the system during or after the hydrolysis to obtain an oily dispersion of photochromic titanium oxide.
