PURPOSE: To obtain an iron-base copper composite powder without causing compositional segregation by mixing the fine copper oxide with its grain diameter and its specific surface specified with the iron powder for powder metallurgy which has not been finish-reduced in a specified ratio and heat-reducing the mixture at a specified temp. ;CONSTITUTION: The fine copper oxide having ≤5μm average grain diameter and ≥10m2/g specific surface is mixed with the iron powder which has not been finish-reduced or annealed so that the metal content is controlled to 10-50wt.%. The mixture is reduced in a reducing atmosphere at 700-950°C to diffuse and deposit metallic copper on the iron powder surface, thus an iron-base copper composite powder for powder metallurgy is obtained. When the iron powder is reduced with copper oxide, carbon is preferably added by 0.15-5.0%. Sintered parts with the size and mechanical strength hardly varied are obtained by using this composite powder.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
