Method of treating or inhibiting proliferation of a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) gamma -responsive cell, comprising contacting the cell with a PPARgamma agonist. Also claimed is a composition comprising: (a) a PPARgamma ligand to induce terminal differentiation of a PPARgamma -responsive hyperproliferative cells in animals; (b) at least one agent selected from mitotic inhibitors, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, nucleic acid intercalating agents, topoisomerase inhibitors, agents which promote apoptosis and agents which increase immune responses to tumours; and (c) a carrier.
