The fitting has a locking member (25), and a second member (27) which can move relative to a rail (28), and is coupled to a driving rod (26). The locking member can be fixed automatically in a blocked position against the resistance of a return spring (35), by an element. The element is located in a lower frame section of the door or window, in a region directly beside the path for the second member. Its locking position can be adjusted with the second member, and it can be displaced from a locking position by an element (22) which is associated with the frame.
