In a star configured multipleaccess radio communication systemwherein a hub station communicates,in time division multiplex mode witha plurality of remote subscriberstations by a forward link signal pathand the remote subscriber stationscommunicate with the hub on a returnlink that has multiple RF carriers thatare configured in an orthogonal mannerand wherein all received returnlink signals are time synchronous,and all signals possess the same timedivision multiplex structure in whicha portion of the signal is dedicatedto time synchronization. A synchronizationburst sequence generator ateach subscriber station, assuming thatthe time tracking and synchronizationprocess of each return link is relativelyunaffected by all other remotestations, generates a sync burstsequence including Sync Codes. TheSync Codes are constructed using abasis sequence of length N, b0, b1,..., bN-1, with each element in thebasis sequence drawn from a binaryalphabet {-1,+1}.
