The invention relates to methods and genetic sequences to produce male sterileplants. More particularly the present invention provides a genetic sequenceencoding for a hydroxyjasmonic acid sulfotransferase and methods for producingtransgenic plants using such a sequence. Furthermore, the present inventionprovides methods to rescue the male sterile phenotype observed in transgenicplants overexpressing the hydroxyjasmonate sulfotransferase and in plantsdeficient in jasmonic acid biosynthesis by the application of 12-hydroxyjasmonicacid.
