Abstract Organelle-directed nanocarriers are provided with organelle-directed nanocarriers, including peptides, that act to release biological molecules, such as nucleic acids, to non-nuclear organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplasts. Methods for the genetic transformation of non-nuclear organelles using such nanocarriers are also provided.
