A method of determining the presence or absence of the breeding ofeating/damaging insects for determining whether eating/damaging insectseating/damaging crops are bred or not in the crops to be determined stored ina storage facility, comprising a first step for disposing an insect catchingdevice for catching eating/damaging insects in the storage facility andleaving it undisturbed for a specified period and a second step fordetermining, after the first step, whether the eating/damaging insects arebred or not in the crops based on the caught state of the eating/damaginginsects by the insect catching device. The insect catching device comprises apedestal not allowing water or oil to be permeated therethrough, a porous basematerial disposed on one surface of the pedestal and capable of retainingwater or oil, and the water or oil retained on the porous base material.
