The sample is subjected to membrane microfiltration, through a mean pore diameter of 11 mum, to obtain a retentate which largely contains the epithelial cells. The cells are recovered by treating the membrane with a solution containing trypsin. Microfiltration is achieved by aspiration of the filtrate.
