A customer-engaging food merchandising module (100) comprises three units: a food storage and display unit (102) attached to a food preparation and display unit (104), and a shell unit (106) attached to at least one of the other two units. One embodiment of the module (100) comprises: a glass door freezer (110) for storing and displaying at least one type of frozen food, a microwave oven (104) attached to the freezer (102), and a shell (106) attached to the freezer (102). The shell (106) is used to support advertising and instructional graphics and also to give the module (100) a unitary appearance. The microwave oven has preprogrammed buttons corresponding to each of the types of food displayed in the freezer, each button activating the microwave oven (104) to correctly heat a corresponding type of frozen food. The shell (106) may be completely assembled in a factory and shipped ready to-use. Maintenance may be by replacement of defective or outdated units. The entire module (100) plugs into one ordinary wall outlet for electrical power.
