An adhesive tape with a transversely-tearable film as carrier has an adhesive coating on one or both sides with one edge being rough-cut and there being at least1 indentation per mm. over the entire region, such indentations being irregularly spaced along the edge and of different depths. The other edge is smooth with no or a greatly reduced number of indentations.
